Resident Judith a Pink Lady for 20 years

Garden Village BBQ – L-R Judith and Annie

Banksia resident Judith has volunteered for the Pink Ladies at Mid North Coast Local Health District for nearly 20 years and is still volunteering! The Pink Ladies are part of the United Hospital Auxiliaries established in 1933. She has enjoyed working at the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and now works at Community Health in their records department.

Judith moved to The Banksia at Garden Village eighteen months ago and is very happy with the move. She has enjoyed using the Hydrotherapy Pool and joining activities and events including the recent Seniors Festival.

Judith and her twin sister Jeanette

Judith grew up in Sydney. Her father was born in Innsbruck, Austria in 1908. Her first job was in accounting and her twin sister Jeanette was a stenographer. The twins were born on a leap year so have only had 20 birthdays when they celebrated their 80th together a few years ago pictured in the local news.  Judith enjoyed travel back to Europe with her twin sister in the 1970’s. She also traveled to America and Canada.

A highlight during her time with the Pink Ladies was the State Conferences where all the Pink Ladies from New South Wales would meet up in Sydney and once in the Tweed.  In 2018 the Pink Ladies won the bid to host the Annual State Conference in Port Macquarie. Almost 200 delegates arrived at Sails Resort for their 86th Annual State Conference.

Now settled into Garden Village Judith recently celebrated another birthday. She enjoys social activities like Spanish Night and BBQs and attends the Mid North Coast Local Health District Social Seniors Program once a week.

National Volunteer Week Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering is just around the corner on 20-26 May 2024. This special event provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our community and invites people not currently volunteering to give it a go. The theme this year is “Something for everyone”.
