Leadership and Vision

As an independent not for profit Garden Village gives people lifestyle choices and independence. Our purpose is to provide quality, accessible and individual care services to the Port Macquarie community. Our vision is to be a trusted and sustainable village supporting people to thrive.

Garden Village Board of Directors

Garden Village demonstrates progressive leadership to continually adapt to the needs of the region and support the local aged care sector. Our local Board of Directors provides a foundation for operational excellence and future planning. The Board oversees the critical business functions of risk management, clinical care, financial management, governance and engagement.

The new Board of Directors were elected at the AGM in October 2022.

Gary Humphreys – Chair of the Board

Gary is an experienced and accomplished non-executive director and senior executive with over 25 years of experience. He is now full time non-executive director and currently hold various board positions in a variety of sectors including banking, government, retail, and charitable organisations. Gary is a valued-based leader with strong focus on organisation purpose, innovation and diversity when delivering superior results for stakeholders, with a specific focus on customer/member impacts.

He held many senior executive positions in large organisations with a proven track record of delivering superior organisation results and implementing significant organisation transformation. Gary is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), completed the Mastering the Boardroom (AICD) course and the Executive Advanced Management Program (AMP173) through Harvard Business School.

Gary’s interests are golf, farming and sustainable living. He loves to be active and enjoys hiking with his wife.

 

Stuart Goodfellow

Deputy Chair of the Board and Chair of the Corporate Governance, Finance and Risk Committee

Stuart is a business consultant with a focus to grow and scale regional businesses. He works with the business owner to attract and motivate team members, great customers and suppliers. Together they build systems to break through the plateau holding their business back. Business owners then experience better profits, and run a business which can operate independently.

Stuart is committed to working with Garden Village, a regional leader for ageing in place environments, to assist people to live well in connected communities. Stuart supports Garden Village as a leading voice on the issues impacting ageing Australians and their families.

His experience spans the global manufacturing industry, implementing global strategic sales and marketing strategies with General Managers and C-suite level professionals across 60 countries.

An active member of the regional community, Stuart is a Board Member of Business Port Macquarie and President of the Huntingdon Rural Fire Service Brigade. He spends spare time working with cattle and regenerating the land on a property outside Wauchope

 

Victoria Oakden

Chair of the Clinical Governance and Care Committee

Victoria is the Director of Oakden Enterprises, an innovative small business providing specialist advice and services. Her passion lies in the community, disability and aged care sectors.

A registered nurse with over 25 years experience, Victoria has an MBA from the Australian National University. She has a decade of experience as a Registered Quality Assessor for the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission auditing aged care facilities against national standards and legislation, resulting in better standards of care for older Australians.

Victoria served as a board director in a not for profit and was part of the transition of the organisation as it merged with another entity. This high-level experience provided an opportunity to be part of the strategic vision for a community-based organisation.

She lives in NSW outside Canberra with her family, dog, horses and chickens.

Louise Eyres

Louise joined the Garden Village Board of Directors in May 2024, bringing with her thirty years of global leadership experience in sales, marketing and digital. With a decade of service in board director and advisor roles across numerous sectors including resources, manufacturing, financial services, sport, retail, and start-up accelerators, Louise offers a broad perspective on strategic decision-making with a client centred lens.

Louise  holds positions as Non-Executive Director at VicSport , Hastings Co-Operative and Afford Australia. Additionally, she serves as an advisor in the agtech and superannuation sector, further demonstrating her commitment to driving positive change and growth across diverse industries.

Louise’s academic qualifications include Bachelor of Business (Marketing), Graduate Diploma (International Trade), MBA (Executive and a qualified Company Director (GAICD).

Louise enjoys travel, exploring new communities with her husband and adult children and improving her golf.

 

Jenny Beange

Jenny joined the Garden Village Board is 2024. She is a Non-Executive Director at Healthy North Coast, Mid North Coast Local Health District, Garden Village and Australians for Women’s Health.

Jenny is an experienced clinician, NED and senior executive who has worked in a variety of roles in not for profit health organisations and public and private clinical care. She is highly regarded and experienced primary health leader with a passion for system reform and equity, through innovation and integration across the health and social services sector.

Jenny has a strong interest in improving accessibility for vulnerable populations, and driving person centred care. She recently retired from general practice and hopes to make a contribution to the wellbeing of Garden Village residents through strong, compassionate and informed governance, Jenny is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Jenny enjoys camping and exploring new places with her husband, especially if it involves slow travel with some long distance hiking. She looks forward to sharing more time with an expanding tribe of grandchildren who bring much joy.

Joan Rafferty

Joan is a registered nurse with a BA Health Science and has extensive experience in aged care including as Director of Nursing and Quality Assessor with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. As a Director of her own Aged Care Quality Consulting company, she consults to major clients in the industry including The Aged & Community Care Providers Association.

Joan sees Garden Village as a place of innovation, embracing all opportunities to create an inclusive community where people are safe and respected. A pioneer in quality health systems, Joan started the first private nursing service accredited by the Australian Council of Health Care Standards. She is committed to the human rights of all aged care residents.

Joan worked overseas in Canada, the United Kingdom, Zambia and Papua New Guinea and is a proud sponsor for four children in Mongolia. She is passionate about improving housing opportunities for older women who cannot afford accommodation as they age.

She loves year round ocean swims and the occasional hike up North Brother with friends.

Neil Porter

Neil enjoyed a long career in local government including 24 years with the Port Macquarie Hastings Council where he served as Director of Corporate Services, Manager of Governance and Acting General Manager. 

With extensive experience in the public sector, particularly in the areas of governance, risk management and continuous improvement, Neil is proud to support Garden Village to make a positive difference for older Australians. He is committed to supporting people to live purposeful and independent lifestyles and fostering partnerships with the community. 

Neil is a Governing board member of the Mid North Coast Local Health District and a Director of the Port Macquarie Rotary Lodge. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie, Port Macquarie Golf Club and the local Race Club and absolutely loves the “sport of Kings”.

Shannon Dawson

Shannon is an experienced senior manager with a comprehensive history of strategic and operational leadership in law, governance, compliance, risk and human capital. She recognises the shared responsibility communities face to ensure quality essential services are accessible to ageing and vulnerable people.

With over 10 years’ experience as in-house legal counsel within a highly regulated industry, Shannon has broadened her professional portfolio through corporate leadership roles with a greater focus on customer, commercial and future workforce outcomes. Shannon has worked in private legal firms in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area and owned and operated a hospitality business in regional NSW.

She is an advocate for meaningful and positive outcomes for Garden Village’s residents, clients, employees and their loved ones through the sustainable delivery of quality care and services.

A founding committee member of Tacking Point Thunder Hockey Club, Shannon enjoys weekends exploring the great outdoors with her family.

Tim Everson

Tim has a long association with Garden Village as the previous General Manager and CEO. He feels privileged to have an enduring connection with the organistion which he has enjoyed immensely, particularly the interaction with residents and the Garden Village teams.

Tim is passionate about ensuring Garden Village is a connected and inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to live a good life. He is committed to creating communities with exceptionally well crafted accessible homes and abundant health and wellbeing options.

With a career spanning twenty years in hospital and health administration and fifteen years aged care administration, Tim shares a wealth of experience with the Garden Village Board.

Locally Tim enjoys weekends with family and grandchildren. He also loves cycling, swimming and kayaking.

Located in Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast, Garden Village is a leading Retirement Living, Aged Care, Disability and Home Care Service. As a registered not for profit we’ve provided care services to the community for over 40 years.

For more than 40 years, Garden Village has provided homes, care and support for ageing Australians on the land of the Birpai people. We pay our respects to all First Nations Ancestors, Elders and People in our community and throughout Australia.
