The Importance of Men’s Health Week for Seniors
Men’s Health Week takes place from 12-18 June 2023. This event is celebrated every year around the world, the theme for 2023 in Australia is Healthy Habits. Men’s Health Week is a valuable initiative that focuses on promoting awareness and encouraging men to take charge of their wellbeing. It’s a great reminder to prioritise regular check-ups, engage in physical activities suitable for your age, and make healthy lifestyle choices. At Garden Village we offer lots of opportunities for social connections including men’s coffee catchups, the men’s shed, social connections and activities through the Wellbeing Centre.

As we age, it becomes increasingly important to prioritise our health and wellbeing. Whilst opportunities for women to keep social and active are abundant, research shows men make less time for mateship.
Men’s Health Week is an opportunity to raise awareness and promote social activities and positive healthy habits.
Men’s Shed: Fostering Mateship with purpose and practical skills
The Men’s Shed is running the BBQ at the Wellbeing Centre. The Garden Village Men’s Shed is a community space that offers social support and purposeful activities. By providing a platform for men to connect, engage in hobbies, and share experiences, Men’s Sheds create a sense of camaraderie and belonging.
Exercise and Physio Benefits for Men
Regular physical activity is important for maintaining men’s health, especially as we age. At Garden Village we have two gyms, balance classes, a hydrotherapy pool and an onsite physiotherapist. Physio plays a significant role in supporting men’s mobility, flexibility, and overall wellbeing. Through targeted exercises and tailored treatment plans, physiotherapists help seniors manage chronic conditions, reduce pain, and regain independence. By improving strength, balance, and coordination, physiotherapy enables men to stay active and enjoy a higher quality of life as they age. We’re pleased to have Dean from Thurgood Physio onsite to support health and wellbeing.
Let’s prioritise men’s health and wellbeing at every stage of life. Join us for the BBQ on 16 June. For more Wellbeing Centre Activities including Tai Chi, Pilates and Massage visit the Wellbeing Centre.
