The Garden Village hydrotherapy pool official opening took place on 7 March 2023, one of the hottest days of the year.
As the outdoor temperature rose to 33 degrees, guests were reminded the hydrotherapy pool is heated to a balmy 33 degrees year round giving residents a wonderful opportunity to exercise and improve their health and wellbeing.
Leslie Williams MP, Member for Port Macquarie joined Garden Village residents Peggy Williams and Del Buckley to cut the ribbon and officially open the rejuvenated space to the community.
CEO Craig Wearne said “The hydrotherapy pool provides an important service to Garden Village aged care residents, retirement living residents and the broader community. It’s a super important asset for the community as a whole.”
The pool is used for aqua aerobics, physiotherapy, aquatic therapy, swimming and gentle exercise. The warm pool temperature assists people with arthritis and joint pain as well as supporting mobility for people with disabilities.
The refurbishment includes a pool ramp, new spa with bubble jets and improved amenities thanks to a grant of $141,604 through the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program.
“We are really proud the work was completed by a local building provider, our small project partner Justin Robinson from Edge Construction. All the suppliers and trades were local to the mid north coast with all grant funds spent locally, ” added Mr Wearne.
Daphne who recently moved to The Banksia Apartments from Tasmania said she enjoys the morning aqua aerobics classes, the bubbles in the spa and of course the warmer climate in Port Macquarie. Cascades resident Sue said the aqua classes were great for her mobility and Susan from the Banksia has started a regular social group for gentle water exercise with friends.
“Now we’ve officially opened the Hydrotherapy Pool we are delighted to share that it can be booked by allied health professionals and service providers offering rehabilitation, aquatic and physical therapy to clients.” said Mr Wearne.
The hydrotherapy pool activities complement the new wellbeing centre program to support the health and wellbeing of the Garden Village residents and local community.
Special thanks to Derek and the Garden Village Maintenance team who manages the pool and makes sure it remains safe for our use.
