Garden Village has co-created a program with Heritage Christian School and Intergen Connect to support intergenerational connections. Virtual Voyagers, Australia’s first SilVR Adventures Intergenerational Program officially launched at Heritage Christian School during Global Intergenerational Week 2025.
Over eight weeks, students and residents will participate in Virtual Reality travel experiences, and exchanging stories in a unique program that encourages empathy, understanding, and intergenerational friendships.
“By embedding SilVR Adventures into intergenerational learning, we’re positioning Port Macquarie as a leader in Intergenerational Best Practice,” said Casey Baldwin, Intergen Connect Founder and Program Facilitator.
The Virtual Voyagers program is the first of its kind in Australia to use immersive VR technology—developed by SilVR Adventures—as a platform for social connection and learning. It aligns with Heritage Christian School’s commitment to differentiated, real-world education and Intergen Connect’s purpose to create age-inclusive communities.
Week One saw Garden Village residents and students from Heritage Christian School meet for the first time at Roto House for an afternoon of connections and conversations! The program was featured in local news – “PORT MACQUARIE is at the forefront of a national innovation in senior care and youth engagement,” as Australia’s first SilVR Adventures Intergenerational Program launches right here in beautiful Port Macquarie!
Rex said “I had a wonderful introduction to the students and really look forward to the next seven weeks.”
Jeni said “We all had a great time, looking forward to the next 7 sessions. Thanks Garden Village for finding such a worthwhile program for both students and residents alike.”
In Week Two we stepped into the heart of ancient Greece with a Virtual Reality trip to Athens, where seniors and students ascended the Acropolis to stand before the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, and the grand Temple of Olympian Zeus.
After the SilVR Adventures, residents and students brought the Olympic spirit to life with a Mini Olympics So much movement, laughter, fun, friendly connections and maybe a little competitive spirit too.
- “I don’t have any children around and I won’t have any grandkids so this is great being able to be with these kids!” said Rex
- “I was speaking with my brother last night and he told me how proud he was of me for being part of this program.”
- “I had a wonderful time!” added Marguerite
- “I’ve missed out on my grandchildren growing up so it’s wonderful to have time with these students!” said Hazel.
