To celebrate International Nurses Day, Garden Village leaders and community members share a message of thanks to everyone working in caring professions. The theme for this year is Our Nurses. Our Future and Garden Village is offering nurses and personal care assistants a mobile massage on Friday 12 May.
According to the International Council of Nurses “Our Nurses. Our Future sets out what the ICN wants for nursing in the future in order to address global health challenges and improve global health for all. We need to learn from the lessons of the pandemic and translate these into actions for the future that ensure nurses are protected, respected and valued.”
Craig Wearne – Garden Village CEO
“There is much to celebrate at Garden Village this International Nurses Day with the May Government announcement to match the Fair Work Commission payrise for the sector.”
“Registered nurses will receive a 15 per cent wage increase and Garden Village is pleased the Government will match this to support the sustainability of the aged care sector.
This is fantastic news for nurses and Garden Village will continue to advocate for all aged care employees including support staff to be recognised.
It was great to attend the recent Business NSW Health and Aged Care Forum at Charles Sturt University recently. As one of the panelists, I was pleased to contribute to the conversation about how we can shape the future workforce to support ageing Australians in the region.
According to the International Council of Nurses “The greatest threat to global health is the workforce shortage.” We’ve seen these shortages in Australia and Garden Village commits to collaborative partnerships with the business and health sector to address labour shortages and skills gaps.
Many of the Garden Village leadership team, including myself, trained as nurses and we look forward to supporting the next generation of health professionals through vocational training, scholarships and placements in the aged care sector.”
Adrienne O’Hare – Executive Manager Clinical Services
“Thank you nurses and team for a great result with the Aged Care Quality Accreditation”
“The “Our Nurses Our Future” campaign shines a light on nurses and a brighter future for caring professions. At Garden Village our team can be incredibly proud of the recent successful Residential Aged Care Quality Accreditation.
It was certainly a bright start to the year for Garden Village completing the successful Audit by the Quality Assessors from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. The achievement was a team effort and these accomplishments would not be possible without dedicated nurses, our supportive nurse unit managers and the extended team. On this day we thank you.
The contribution of our nursing and care teams directly supports Garden Village’s mission to be the leading provider of compassionate care, support and lifestyle services on the Mid North Coast.
Taryn Robinson – Quality Manager
“This International Nurses Day let’s give a shout out to our teams for achieving super successful Aged Care Star Ratings.”
It’s important for families to know they can trust Garden Village to provide exceptional care and support to residents.
The star ratings offer transparency and simplicity to view important information about staffing, compliance, resident experience and quality.
On International Nurses Day we thank all the nurses, care and support staff who have contributed to Garden Village receiving 5/5 Stars for Quality and Compliance. Our Aged Care Star Ratings positions Garden Village in the top 30 percent of aged care services across Australia. Congratulations to our teams. ”
Cheryl Pearson – Resident, Former Garden Village Matron and Nurse
“Today we celebrate International Nurses Day. Florence Nightingale’s birthday.”
“The Lady with the lamp as she was known. I don’t think that lamp has ever been so heavy as it is for today’s nurses and carers. I am sure Flo would have had something to say to the regulators especially in the aged care sector if she had been around today.
International Nurses Day is an important day in the calendar year, as it is a day when we can really acknowledge and thank nurses for the important work they do.
Today is a day when we acknowledge all of the dedicated nurses in our community and around the world, past and present.
For me though, it is a day to say a special thank you to the amazing and caring staff of Garden Village. In Aged Care, especially at Garden Village every staff member is a nurse in some form or another. Compassionate and caring, it is part of the overall job description it seems.
How fortunate am I to live in a place with so many caring people who continue to encourage, comfort, support all of us in so many ways. Thank you. “
Happy International Nurses Day!

“There are a few stand out staff in Westerweller that I must thank, commend and applaud…Chom for her enthusiasm, her bright cheery personality who goes way above and beyond her duties. Her respect and care for my mother is shown by little things like putting on some lipstick, and perfume, and cheering her up if she’s feeling a little ‘blue’.
Luke who is always available to help, will go out of his way to assist if there is any issues and in general, is a kind, calm and caring person.
Bec, bubbly and bright, always has a chat and will do whatever it takes to ensure Mum’s needs are being met. She loves her job and it shows.
Daniel is always helpful, respectful and nothing is too much trouble. There are many other staff that have also cared for and shown kindness for which we are very appreciative.” Adrienne Wilkie Betty’s daughter
