Funding splash for Garden Village Hydrotherapy Pool and Gym

Garden Village residents can relax and rejuvenate in a renewed hydrotherapy pool and gym space, with works commencing in 2022.

The Garden Village hydrotherapy pool and gym will be refurbished thanks to The NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program. Funds will improve accessibility and use for residents and people with disabilities.

The refurbishment includes a pool ramp, new spa with bubble jets, gym equipment and improved amenities. Leslie Williams MP, Member for Port Macquarie visited Garden Village on Friday 5 November to congratulate the team. Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said the funding will help Garden Village continue supporting the community and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

“Garden Village has undergone a massive transformation over the past few years including the ongoing redevelopment currently underway so to be able to assist them further with the grant is wonderful news,” Mrs Williams said.

Hydrotherapy pools are usually 33–36ºC, which is warmer than a typical swimming pool. The warm temperature assists people with arthritis and joint pain as well as supporting mobility for people with disabilities.

“With only two hydrotherapy pools in the region, Garden Village is delighted that we can modernise the hydrotherapy pool and connected gym facilities. The space will be inviting, safe and accessible for ageing residents and people with disabilities,” said Craig Wearne CEO Garden Village.

Hydrotherapy focuses on slow, controlled movements and relaxation. Water exercise assists body strength, flexibility, conditioning and general fitness as well as promoting a sense of wellbeing. Hydrotherapy can enhance the progress of many rehabilitation and recovery programs.

“The hydrotherapy pool offers a wonderful space for relaxation, strength building and mobility exercises. We’re looking forward to offering physio programs with our allied health partners to support people after surgery and falls. The hydrotherapy pool is also fantastic for every day health and wellness and injury prevention,” added Mr Wearne.

The grant of $141,604 was approved through the July 2021 round of the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program which supports communities in the building, renovation and fit out of infrastructure to enhance facilities used by the community.
