Family trio support seniors to live a good life

The Camerons are a close-knit family who have all chosen careers in care at Garden Village. Josie Cameron moved to Port Macquarie 23 years ago and soon found employment at Garden Village. She currently works as a Personal Care Assistant in Wintergarden.

“I work with a great team of people from all departments including cleaners, catering, and maintenance. It’s very rewarding being able to assist our most vulnerable community members,” said Josie.

Josie’s daughter Angela has worked at Garden Village for many years, and her other daughter Sarah recently joined the growing Home Care Team as a Care Coordinator.

“I love assisting people live their best lives, if I can help in any way that’s truly rewarding,” said Sarah.

Sarah appreciates the great atmosphere and awesome community at Garden Village and decided it was a good choice for her next career move.

The Camerons are all passionate about their work and committed to providing high-quality care to residents and the Port Macquarie Community.

“It is so rewarding working in the community and aged care settings and assisting those that need it most, the appreciation you get from your clients is what makes you get up and go to work every day,” said Angela.

Employment Pathways from Trainee to Registered Nurse

Garden Village is committed to the continuous development and learning of staff, supporting them in their careers.

Angela acknowledges the generosity of David and Glenys Sherard for giving her the opportunity to work at Garden Village. Glenys and David managed Garden Village  for many years.

Angela’s career began as a school-based administration trainee. Garden Village warmly welcomed her, thanks to her mother’s connection. Over time, she transitioned to various roles and her career progression owes much to the support of Cheryl Pearson, who recommended her for a Certificate 3 in Aged Care.

After completing the Enrolled Nurse training through Garden Village and eight years as an EN Angela decided to train as a Registered Nurse. She left to complete a post graduate placement and eventually found her way back to Garden Village where she supports the growth of Home Care Services.

Garden Village has a great reputation for providing high-quality care to seniors. Josie says she chose to work here because of its reputation, which continues to this day.
