As part of Dementia Action Week, our Clinical Educator Emily shared practical resources and information with our team of 280 employees, helping build greater awareness of dementia and how we can better support people living with dementia, their families and carers.
An estimated 446,500 Australians are living with dementia, with that number projected to exceed one million by 2065. Around 29,000 Australians are living with young onset dementia, while approximately 1.7 million people are involved in caring for someone living with dementia.
These figures highlight why education, understanding and open conversations matter.
This year’s Dementia Action Week theme, “It’s time to talk about dementia”, encourages everyone to join the conversation and help create greater understanding and inclusion.
Across Garden Village, residents and employees also wore their favourite denim or a touch of blue to support a dementia-friendly Port Macquarie. There was plenty of fun along the way, with Wintergarden resident Heather taking out our Best Dressed Resident prize.
Donations collected throughout September will go to Dementia Friendly Port Macquarie, supporting its important work to create a more inclusive and dementia-friendly local community.
Thanks also to Dementia Friendly Port Macquarie for providing complimentary tickets for their Dementia Matters Event at the Westport Club.
