Garden Village Connects with Future Nurses at CSU Orientation
Garden Village was pleased to take part in the Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Nursing Orientation in Port Macquarie, with General Manager Residential Aged Care, Tammie Gough, addressing more than 140 commencing students.
As part of the Industry Connection Session, Tammie shared an overview of her nursing career and the diverse pathways available within aged care.
Beginning her career as a mature-aged student, Tammie spent a decade in paediatrics and neonatal intensive care in Queensland before relocating to the Mid North Coast. Following roles at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and involvement in the region’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout, she joined Garden Village as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Unit Manager. Four years later, she now leads the organisation’s Residential Aged Care services.
Speaking to new nursing students, Tammie highlighted the scope of practice within aged care, from chronic disease management and dementia care to acute deterioration and palliative care, as well as the leadership opportunities available in a nursing career.
Garden Village’s Residential Aged Care team includes 46 Registered Nurses and 10 Endorsed Enrolled Nurses, supported by experienced Assistants in Nursing and allied staff, delivering 24/7 care to older members of the Mid North Coast community.
Reflecting on the event, Tammie said the session was a valuable opportunity to connect with students and promote local career pathways.
“Thank you so much for including us in the Industry Connection Session. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the day and connecting with the students across all year levels. It was a great opportunity to showcase Garden Village and speak about the pathways available within aged care,” she said.
“We truly value our partnership with the university and look forward to continuing to work together to support and grow our local nursing workforce.”
