In 2006 Garden Village commissioned an artwork by local artist and Garden Village employee Robyn Carol to brighten up the community centre which is the beating heart of the Garden Village Community. Seventeen years later the artworks have been repositioned in pride of place on a feature wall to celebrate the visual identity and memories of Garden Village.
The artist Robyn was an employee for 25 years commencing in 1984. Robyn worked in catering and as a Recreational Activities Officer. She passed away in 2022. Robyn has relatives who live at Garden Village today.
The title of this painting is: Gather, Inspire, Create, Life. This is the story of the artwork.
In Ancient Greece, it was believed that people’s souls, represented by a butterfly-winged girl named Psyche, left the body after death.
Psyche is the Greek word for soul.
Garden Village’s heart and soul is the Community Centre, serving as a meeting place and community hub. It’s a space for connection, creativity and celebration. A gathering place for reflecting life, inspiring us to create, and to celebrate our enjoyment as a community.
The purple butterfly symbolises Garden Village, while white butterflies represent memories of past residents and the shared spirit within the community.
The coloured butterflies embody the diverse individuals coming together, sharing inspiration, knowledge, and experiences.
The crochet patterns reflect our endeavours, creating and building pathways.
The leaves are the life we give to the Village. We are a garden of people.
The beautiful artwork is now centre stage and continues to be a focal point for our community today. Pictured Garden Village Employees receiving their employee recognition awards in 2023 with the beautiful backdrop of the original artwork.
